Personality:
Snape is an extremely prideful, strict, and spiteful person. He can have a very short temper, but is usually calm and collected. Snape displays a strong hatred of Harry Potter, which may likely be because of his lasting grudge against Harry's father, James Potter.
History Before Hogwarts:
Snape was born on January 9, 1958 to his Muggle father, Tobias Snape, and his witch mother, Eileen Prince, making him a half-blooded wizard. In his first year as a student at Hogwarts, it is said that he knew more hexes and curses than most of the 7th-years, although his bookish demeanor and unattractive appearance made him an outsider and object of scorn. He also had a fascination with the Dark Arts. Snape suffered relentless teasing and bullying from James Potter and Sirius Black. Snape had invented a number of spells, one or more of which James learned and used against him in public during their fifth year. Snape was hung upside down in mid-air from a Levicorpus spell and humiliated while students watched. Snape, to this day, holds a grudge against James for that. However, Snape now takes his anger out on the young Harry Potter.
After graduating from Hogwarts, it is known that Snape became one of Lord Voldemort's followers, a Death Eater. Before Voldemort's defeat by the infant Harry Potter, Snape joined the Order of the Phoenix.
History During Hogwarts:
Snape began teaching at Hogwarts in 1981 as the Potions professor, though it is known that he really wanted to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. In 1996, Snape finally got his wish and became the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Within a few years after his employment, he became the Head of Slytherin House. Because Snape had been a Death Eater, he agreed to be a spy for Dumbledore.
Throughout the years that Harry Potter has been at Hogwarts, Snape has protected the boy and helped him fend off danger posed by Lord Voldemort.

Snape's ears perked up as he heard the classroom door quietly open and then close again. He stopped writing on the chalkboard and turned to face the late students.
"Potter! Weasley! Late again, I see," he stated, an amused smirk forming on his thin lips. "That will be twenty points from Gryffindor for repeat tardiness."
"Twenty?!" Harry called out in surprise.
"Each." Snape added. His smirk growing ever so slightly as he watched all of the Gryffindor students' mouths drop. "Now take your seats... Or would you like a detention on top of that?"
Harry and Ron grumbled as they sat down in the back of the room, next to Hermione. Snape then returned his attention to the chalkboard and continued to write down the hexes he would be teaching the class that week.
